Sedation Options

Our Sedation Options

Every patient's comfort level is different. We offer three levels of sedation so you can choose what makes your visit feel manageable — and even easy.

Mild Sedation

Nitrous Oxide

A colourless, odourless gas delivered through a small mask placed over the nose. You'll feel relaxed and at ease within minutes, while remaining fully conscious and able to communicate. The effects wear off quickly after the mask is removed — most patients drive themselves home.

Best for: Mild to moderate anxiety, routine procedures, patients who want to stay alert and communicative.

Standard Numbing

Local Anesthesia

The backbone of comfortable dentistry. We use local anesthesia to numb the treatment area completely, ensuring you feel no pain during the procedure. Used for virtually all restorative and surgical work, and frequently combined with nitrous oxide for added comfort.

Best for: All patients; combined with other sedation options when needed for greater comfort.

Deep Sedation

IV Sedation

Administered by our visiting board-certified anesthesia specialist, IV sedation places you in a deeply relaxed, sleep-like state. You'll have little to no memory of the procedure and will wake up feeling as though it happened in an instant. Requires a companion to drive you home.

Best for: Severe dental anxiety, complex or lengthy procedures, patients with special needs, and anyone wanting multiple treatments completed in one comfortable visit.

Who It Helps

Who Benefits from Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation isn't just for people with severe phobias — it's for anyone who wants their dental experience to be more manageable. You might benefit from sedation if you:

Have dental anxiety or a dental phobia
Have a sensitive gag reflex that makes dental work difficult
Need complex or lengthy procedures (implants, oral surgery)
Have had past traumatic dental experiences
Have special needs or sensory sensitivities
Want to get multiple treatments done in one comfortable visit

"You deserve to leave the dentist feeling relieved — not traumatized. Our entire team is trained to work gently with anxious patients, and sedation is always available whenever it makes your visit better."

Ask us about sedation at any appointment — there's never any pressure, and we'll walk you through all your options before any treatment begins.

IV Sedation

IV Sedation: Our Visiting Specialist

The deepest level of comfort — right here in our Oceanside office, no hospital required.

Tri-City Dental partners with a board-certified anesthesia specialist who visits our Oceanside office for IV sedation procedures. This allows us to offer the deepest level of sedation without requiring a hospital setting — keeping your care convenient and in a familiar environment where you already feel comfortable.

IV sedation is ideal for patients undergoing complex procedures such as dental implants, full-arch restoration, multiple extractions, or oral surgery — and for anyone whose anxiety is severe enough that lighter sedation options don't provide sufficient comfort.

Important: IV Sedation Preparation

IV sedation requires a companion to drive you home — you will not be able to drive yourself after the procedure. We'll walk you through all pre- and post-procedure instructions at your consultation, including fasting requirements and recovery expectations.

What to Expect with IV Sedation

You'll be deeply relaxed within minutes of the IV being placed
You'll have little to no memory of the procedure afterward
A trusted companion must be present to drive you home
Plan to rest for the remainder of the day following your procedure
Our team will provide complete pre- and post-procedure care instructions
